I think its greatest utility is in letting us know whether a YouTube video of him is old or new. I don’t watch regular TV, so that’s the only way I ever see him. Before Trump, I didn’t watch much of the TV satire gang, but now it’s generally rather gratifying. Took me a while to realize that some people upload very old shows and try to pass them off as new. But Colbert’s developing beard is a great tell. Some people do have different-colored whiskers and head hair. My son is blond, but his beard is almost black.
