The Chief Election Commissioner of India holds office – (1) for six years (2) during the pleasure of the President (3) for six years or till the age of 65 whichever is earlier (4) for five years or till the age of 60 whichever is earlier
(3) for six years or till the age of 65 whichever is earlier Explanation: The President of India (based on a recommendatioill from incumbent Government of India) appoints the Chief Election Commissioner who has tenure of six years, or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. He enjoys the same official status, salary and perks as available to Judges of the Supreme Court of India. Note : Dr. Nasim Zaidi is thepresent (2017) chief election of India.
