Quito, Ecuador is also known as San Francisco de Quito. Quito is Ecuador’s capital city. It is found in the northwestern region of the South American continent. Sitting in north-central Ecuador on the gorgeous Guayllabamba river basin, Quito gloats atop the eastern slopes of Pichincha, which is an active stratovolcano in the rugged Andes mountain range. Quito has a population of roughly a million and a half people. It is the second most populous city in the entire country of Ecuador, Guayaquil being the first most populous city. Nestled deep within the Pichincha province, Quito was designated the headquarters to the Union of South American Nations in the year 2008.
