He is the traditional secular ruler and, in the absence of the Panchan Lama, the leader of the Gelug or "Yellow Hat" branch of Tibetan Buddhism. His sect regards him as the living incarnation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion. What he did to help the world was that he promoted peace, and gave hope to the world and the people that lived within it, and as a spiritual leader, he stood up in what he believed in, even when others were promoting violence. He has won the Nobel Prize for Peace nad many other awards.
