In an effort to treat mild diverticulitis, many people will need to follow a diverticulitis diet to help manage symptoms associated with this disease that affects the colon. For the first few days while a person is on a diverticulitis diet, they will only be allowed liquids such as broth, water, Gelatin, white soda and fruit juice without pulp. Within a short period of time, the patient will then be able to begin consuming foods that have low fiber content. These types of foods include pasta, white rice, poultry, eggs, fish, milk, cheese, peas, green beans and fruits that do not contain seeds. Within a few days of starting this diet, the symptoms of diverticulitis should begin to subside.
