1899 saw the creation of the first electric-gas hybrid car and it was engineered by none other than Porsche Automobil Holding SE founder Ferdinand Porsche. In more recent years, Porsche developed the Cayenne S Hybrid whose electric motor uses energy generated by braking. This model also has a nickel hydride battery which needs no upkeep. Needless to say, the Cayenne S Hybrid has the best mileage of any of the other Cayenne models.
