DSL, which stands for Digital Subscriber Line, is a type of communication protocol that is used for phone and internet services. Essentially, DSL internet is transmitted through phone lines. By contrast, cable companies transmit their internet services through advanced fiber optic cables. The advantage of DSL internet is that it is affordable when compared to broadband services from cable companies. However, a DSL company can only provide internet service for a limited distance from its base. Additionally, DSL internet speeds have limitations of up to several Mbps, which may be reasonable for occasional computer users.
