"SLR" stands for Single-lens reflex. This is the method by which most professional-grade cameras take photos. In an SLR camera, light enters the lens and is reflected upwards into the viewfinder assembly by a mirror. When the operator looks through the viewfinder, he or she adjusts the lens in order to properly take the shot.
