All whales are mammals as they need to surface to breath air (a fish doesn't). Whales reproduce by internal fertilisation between bull and cow whales (fish use external fertilisation and lay eggs). There are many other differences, but the two examples above should prove that fish and aquatic animals are different. Keep a whale underwater long enough and it will drown. keep a fish out of water long enough and it will die.
