Niobe insulted their mother, Leto in saying during one of Leto'sfestivals that she was as worthy of worship as Leto for beingmother to seven sons and seven daughters while Leto had only oneson and one daughter; in punishment for this boast, Leto had herchildren kill all of Niobe's (or all but one daughter and oneson).
