I would not prefer to implement VFD with fire pump considering below points; Fire system is not continuously operating system, it is operated on occasional basis, just for operational testing or in case of fire. Generally VFD is being used for systems having high occasional pump capacity requirement , but pump’s continuous operating is on lower capacity. addition of VFD and VFD compatible motor will an additional investment for nothing. There must be jockey pump in fire system which serve same purpose of VFD control to maintain system pressure. However, in case your fire hydrant system is separate from sprinkler system, then you may look for VFD option to eliminate PRVs, but compare your investment costs first..!!
