The old stairs in the cottage are no longer hoods. I want to have a new metal railing welded into which the wooden stairs will be mounted. Is it better to paint the railing or have it galvanized? Galvanizing is probably very expensive, huh? My point is to keep the railing from rusting.

Answer :

If you have the opportunity, definitely have the construction hot-dip galvanized - although it is "somewhat more expensive", but it is enough "once in a lifetime" (so no more costs, no work ...). ;-) Calculate the price for about 15-20 CZK / kg (so more subtle constructions are advantageous) and in the case of using closed profiles, don't forget to tell the welder about galvanizing, they have to drill "cavities" so that the structure does not tear due to temperature difference.

Although they perform two separate functions in the process, both functions are necessary and are being weakened by mixing the two chemicals. You may have problems with the plating flaking off.
