How to Catch a Leprechaun
A leprechaun is the equivalent of the Irish to a gnome or an elf. Dressed in old-fashioned clothes of Irish green, the leprechaun is said to have access to a pot of gold. Once caught, a leprechaun will tell you where the pot of gold is in exchange for his freedom.
It all sounds easy enough, but leprechauns hate two things the most: Humans and getting caught. It’s said that if you take your eyes off a leprechaun for even a second, it will disappear. Leprechauns also have two pouches, one which has a gold coin. He may offer it to you, but don’t take it as it will become a rock. Leprechauns are also very fast, so don’t let them out of your grip.
However, once you catch a leprechaun, treat him with kindness. Doing the leprechaun a good turn will be good to you as well. The leprechaun can grant you one wish.
Ready to catch a leprechaun? Here’s how to make a leprechaun trap.
Making the Leprechaun Trap
Materials
Net
Cardboard box
Green paint
Green tissue paper
Old shoe
Pennies
Scissors
Green stickers, glitter, ink, etc.
Procedure
Paint the cardboard box a bright green hue. Make sure that the green tissue paper you have matches this color. The green should match its surroundings.
The old shoe is a lure, because leprechauns are said to be dedicated shoemakers. However, you can also use sandwiches, four leaf clovers and yes, Lucky Charm Cereals.
Cut out a small rectangular hole on top of the box.
Put the green tissue on top of the hole.
Decorate the area around the tissue with green-colored designs such as stickers, glitter and glue.
Put the pennies on top of the hole without falling in. If you don’t want to use real pennies, you can use chocolate coins or paper coins that are colored gold, instead.
Put the trap near the trees or hedgerows, making sure it blends with the surroundings.
A leprechaun will leave a trail of green or gold glitter, so keep an eye out for it.
The leprechaun will soon show up to pick up the coins. Once he steps in the trap, he will fall in the hole. You must then throw the net over him, and grasp him firmly in your hands. Remember, don’t look away from him or he will get away.
No one has ever caught a leprechaun before, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try! Good luck.
