How to Catch a Baseball

Steps:
Get in position. Stay alert and never take your eyes off the ball. Stand with your feet a few inches apart and your knees slightly bent. Put your hands in front of you.
Focus on the ball. Anticipate the direction the ball will take and be ready to move in that direction.

Move in to catch the ball. Move towards the area where the ball might land. Don’t wait for the ball to land on your hand. You may slide or jump to catch the ball quickly.
Extend your arms. If your catching a ball batted in a straight direction, open and place your gloved hand in front of your chest with your thumbs pointing down.
Thumbs up. If the ball’s direction is towards the side of your gloved hand, extend your arms to the side and catch the ball with your thumb pointed upwards.
Closed your gloved hand immediately upon catching the ball.
Use your free hand to secure the ball. Keep your free hand ready to secure your catch. This will prevent the ball from falling off your gloved hand.
