How to Pick a Lock
This article will help you properly pick a lock.
Things you will need
You may need certain things to pick a lock. You may possibly try using these:
Hairpins
Paper clips
Scissors
Swiss knife
Small screwdriver
A small cardboard/plastic card of about the size of a calling card
If you are using paper clips or hairpins, you initially need to straighten it out. This can be used for padlocks and doorknobs.
Picking the Lock
If you are already done with straightening it, insert it to the lock (for hairpins, the ridge side should be placed where you usually put the ridged side of a key).
At this point, turn the hairpin quite gently to the direction of where the lock opens.
Apply steady gentle pressure as you turn it.
Be careful not to turn it too much because you may just end up locking it back again.
Using Scissors
If you are going to use a pair of scissors, you can possibly open the lock by inserting one of the blades into the keyhole.
If you have inserted it into the keyhole, just move it in a counter clockwise manner (just wriggle it into the hole). WARNING: BE CAREFUL WITH THE BLADE! YOU MIGHT CUT AND HURT YOURSELF!
Using a Swiss Knife
If you are going to use a Swiss knife, you just have to do pretty much the same as using a scissor (but a Swiss knife is better because you can experiment with all the blades it has). WARNING: BE CAREFUL WITH THE BLADES! YOU MIGHT CUT AND HURT YOURSELF!
Using a Screwdriver
For a screwdriver, you need to pick one that is not too big. The tip should be right about the size of the keyhole. All you need to do is insert it in the keyhole. Then you have to turn the screwdriver to the direction of where the lock opens. If this does not work, try wriggling it back and forth.
Using a Card
For the plastic card or cardboard, you may only use this for doorknobs or deadbolts.
Insert the card between the door and the doorknob.
Afterwards, try pushing the card to the doorknob (give it an upward or downward push).
Keep doing this so that you push the mechanism in the knob, which closes the door.
When Picking Fails
When you end up desperate and unable to pick the lock, you can resort to removing the hinges of the door.
