Go to the locksmith shop or the hardware, and tell then what you’re looking for in a lock. Tell the salesperson the current model you have. They’ll help you find the right type that will suit your place.
Make sure to check your doorknob and deadbolt’s backset, and that it fits the lock model you’ll buy. You can measure this from the door’s latch edge to the center of the deadbolt or doorknob. Most backset’s are either 2 6 to 6.5 centimeters long. In most new models, the backset is adjustable, but check before you make the final purchase.
Take out the old dead bolt or doorknob by backing the screws out that attach it to the other half. You can find these on the knob’s inside. After the screws are out, pull the two halves of the knob away from the door. Don’t close the door, or you’ll need to unlatch it or re-insert the half of the knob using the blade on it.
Remove the two screws that are at the door’s edge, to take away the latch or throw bolt. If you both the exact same model, you can skip this step. Just get the new one and compare them. Leaving them is better since replacing and removing the screws weaken their hold on the door.
Attach the new screws, holding up the new lock. Just remember how the old lock used to look. If the screws won’t attach, shove a small wood splinter into the screw hole, then snap them off level with the door’s edge. If you want. You can replace them with longer screws, but make sure the heads are the same one as the ones on the screws provided by the manufacturer. Otherwise, they won’t sit well.
Make sure the lock’s installed tightly and properly. Test it by closing and opening the door.
A door lock that works properly assures you that your privacy and safety are always maintained. Follow these steps and before you know it, that new lock will be fitting perfectly in your door.
