You are feeling the itch again. It is so persistent it hinders you from doing anything without scratching your groin and upper thighs. While taking an exam, playing basketball, or in the middle of a dinner date, you can’t stop thinking about it. The annoying part is that no matter how much you try, you can’t help scratching it. This is most likely jock itch. There are easy ways to treat it and say goodbye.
Jock Itch Treatment Options
Jock itch is very easy to diagnose and treat. It usually responds to self-care. Over-the-counter antifungal sprays, powder and creams can usually solve the problem.
Jock Itch Sprays - These sprays are often the same or similar to those used to treat athlete’s foot. Spray them on and receive instant relief of burning and itching, and the cracking of your skin will soon heal, too.
Jock Itch Powders - These powders also have anti-fungal properties. After you apply the powder, make sure to wear loose-fitting garments over top. You don’t need to put a bandage over the powder; the affected area needs to be able to breathe.
Jock Itch Creams - If you choose to use a cream, make sure to spread it beyond the area of the rash. You only need to apply a light layer in order for it to be effective.
Jock Itch Treatment Tips
Whether you are using a spray, powder, or cream, make sure to clean and dry both the affected area and your hands before applying the treatment. Plus, make sure that the towel you use to dry yourself is clean! Ensure you aren’t introducing any new bacterias into the area!
Be sure to read the label carefully before you apply any type of jock itch treatment.
While you are showing, gently wash the affected area. If any pieces of dry or cracked skin start to fall off, be gentle.
If you also have athelete’s foot, be careful when you are putting on your underwear! If your underwear touches your affected feet, you could be spreading the fungus further north.
Usually, the jock itch treatment lasts for two weeks. Even if the symptoms disappear completely before the period ends, you should continue applying the antifungal cream to prevent the infection from recurring. Make sure to launder the towels you use after showering and any laundry used while applying the treatment. You wouldn’t want to spread the fungus to anyone else!
Don’t feel ashamed about your condition or the treatment of it. Jock itch and other fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot, are very common and can be treated easily.
If after two weeks and you don’t see any change in the condition of the affected area, it is best to consult a doctor and use prescribed medication.
