Chronic Jock Itch

1 Answer

Answer :

Your groin area has been itching for weeks. You think rashes and itching is just a normal part of growing up. Well, maybe you have jock itch. If it’s been bugging you for some time, it could be chronic jock itch.

Chronic jock itch refers to the skin infection caused by a group of fungi. This is common in people who perform a lot of sweaty activities like jogging, cycling, swimming, and sports. It is also common in people who are used to wearing tight undergarments and tight clothing like bathing suits and supporters. Like common jock itch, it affects the groin and anal areas and the upper thighs. These parts of your body provide a good place for fungi to develop: a moist, warm environment.

If you have had jock itch for weeks or months now, treating it with over-the-counter anti-fungal creams, powder or sprays can easily solve the problem. Chronic jock itch usually responds to over-the-counter drugs. However, if you’ve tried everything and it has not disappeared, it is best to consult a doctor and ask for a prescription. Prescription medicine for jock itch is a lot stronger and works a little faster.

While you’re under treatment, there are things you have to bear in mind so you can get rid of it fast. Always take a shower. Bad hygiene is usually the cause of jock itch. Dry your body with a clean towel. Do not share towels with anyone. You might pass on the fungi. You might also get another fungal infection. Make sure that your crotch, anal area, and other affected areas are clean and dry. You can use a hair blower set on a cool setting. Do not make it too warm or you’ll sweat, which provides the right environment for fungi. Apply the cream or other topical medication when the area is clean and dry. You can also put some talc powder on the affected area to absorb sweat. Avoid scratching, as it could lead to secondary bacterial infections.

If you’ve done all of this and it still won’t go away, talk to your doctor about it.
