Carrom discovery in South Asia. Of course, this is not to say that there is no debate. Some say the game first started in Sri Lanka. Many say that it was the Indians who once spread the game in Sri Lanka. Again many say in Portugal. However, many people think that the Maharaja of India introduced this game. When the game spread all over the world after the discovery, different rules were played in different countries. In 1890, Henry Haskel, a teacher in America, changed the rules of the game. He made the striker much lighter and gave the shape of a ring instead of the pieces. The carom board is patented in the name of Henry Haskell from America. The International Carrom Federation (ICF) was formed in 1986 in Chennai, India. From then on, certain rules have to be followed in national and international matches. The first international carom competition was held in 1993. Bangladesh Carrom Federation was formed in 1990. Although carom is widely practiced and popular all over Bangladesh, the reason for its lack of success at the international level may be that the game is played at different levels at the grassroots level .
