Oxygen bar is a place where units of oxygen are sold for recreation. However, inhaling only oxygen would not create eagerness among people. Hence, artificial flavours are added to this oxygen. These flavours are added through the means of bottles that are bubbling oxygen continuously. A few oxygen bars use food grades to produce this favour, while the remaining use aromatic oils.
Oxygen BarAlthough quite a few people now know what is an Oxygen bar, it is not commonly found everywhere. Oxygen is found everywhere in the atmosphere around. However, these bars offer a session of oxygen inhalation, which last from a few minutes to over 20 minutes, and the content of oxygen in this air is more than the normal 20.9% found in surrounding atmosphere.
This increased percentage of oxygen gives you a fresh feeling and energy. Oxygen is inhaled through nostrils with the help of nasal cannula. These bars use a non-medical oxygen concentrator that extracts oxygen from the surrounding for guest’s consumption. This is stored in portable oxygen tanks.
The proponents of oxygen bar claim that such inhalation can remove toxics from the human body and cure many diseases. Such inhalation improves the health of an individual and strengthens the immune system. It can also be used as a cure of hangover, sinus problems, headaches, and tiredness. However, these are only claims and it doesn’t have any medical proofs till now.
Although oxygen bars claim to be of medicinal use, the rules according to Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic act prohibits inhalation of any substance or gas used for medicinal purposes.
What is Oxygen Bar
A human body inhales oxygen from the environment which carries about 21% oxygen of the total gasses. When a human exhales air, the lungs contain around 97% oxygen. Hence, inhaling more percentage of oxygen serves no purpose. In fact, it might even prove to be harmful. People suffering from respiratory problems like asthma should not inhale much of oxygen in a single breath.
Besides, the oils and other substances that these bars use to add flavour in the oxygen may cause lung infection as they are not medically treated before mixing. The containers and the nasal cannulas used by these bars may not be cleaned after each use, which may cause transmission of diseases from one person to another. Similarly, the quality of oxygen they provide is questionable as it could have been extracted from impure air, which may cause more respiratory problems.
