: The first old age allowance was introduced in 1997 under the Social Security Enclosure Program for Poverty Alleviation. The Ministry of Social Welfare conducts these activities. Initially, allowances were given to 5 lakh poor people at the rate of 125 rupees. From July 1, 2004, the allowance was increased to Tk 185. At present, about 24 lakh elderly people have been covered under this facility and old age allowance of Rs 300 per person is being paid. At present about 24.75 lakh lakhs.
