This is the main source of energy for the sun. The fusion reaction lasts indefinitely , meaning there is no reason for the reaction to stop normally. Calculations show that the Sun emits 4.2 million metric tons of energy per second in the form of light , heat, etc. , through mass-energy conversion , a very small fraction of which reaches the Earth.
