The most important provisions of this Act were: The partition of India and Pakistan, the two new kingdoms of British India, came into force on 15th August 1947. Separation of the two new states into the Presidency of Bengal and the Province of Punjab (British India). Establishment of Governor-General's office in each of the two new countries , as a representative of the Crown. Giving full legislative authority over the respective Constituent Assemblies of the two new countries. Effective August 15, 1948, effectively ending the British monarchy over the native states , and recognizing the state's right to remain independent or to recognize both kingdoms. Abolition of the title of Emperor of India by the "British Monarchy" (this was subsequently enacted by the Royal Declaration of King George VI on 22 June 1947 ). The law also provided for the division of joint property between the two new countries, especially the division of the armed forces.
