The process by which different colloidal substances absorb different types of liquids is called imbibition. Starch , cellulose , gelatin , cell wall etc. are colloidal substances in plants. These substances are inflated by absorbing water for their colloidal properties. Dried seeds absorb the required amount of water during the germination process.
