DESCRIPTION: These annuals are found wild in southern Europe. They branch out a lot and grow 1 to 2 feet high. The oblong to lanceolate-shaped, silvery leaves grow up to 2 inches long. The dry, papery flowers are shiny and may be single or double. They grow up to 2 inches across and may be white, rose, or pink. The flowers may be used for drying. They should be cut when the buds begin to open. If they are left to dry on the plant, they turn tan or light brown.


POTTING: These plants are grown in well-drained soil that is moist to on the dry side; they will tolerate drought. They should be exposed to the sun half the day or more.


PROPAGATION: Start seeds early indoors in pots or flats of light soil They may also be sown outside where they are to grow and bloom when the soil is warm.


VARIETIES: X. annuum (Has many varieties in single and double flowers.)
