High Commissioner for the Human Rights: This post was established in 1993. The first High Commissioner was appointed in 1994. He works under the authority of the Secretary General. His main functions are: (i) To ensure civil, political, social and other rights to all. (ii) To help the centre for Human Rights in its activities. (iii) To enhance international co-operation for promotion and protection of Human Rights. (iv) He also coordinates the work for all other UNO agencies working in the field of Human Rights.
