How are deposits of bauxite formed and aluminium obtained? -SST 10th

1 Answer

Answer :

(i) Bauxite deposits are formed due to decomposition of wide variety of rocks rich in aluminium silicates. Ores containing aluminium are obtained from bauxite which is a clay-like substance from which alumina and later aluminium is obtained. (ii) It is an important metal because it combines the strength of metals such as iron with good conductivity.(ii) Odisha is the largest bauxite producing state. 45% of country’s total production in 2000-2001 was from Orissa. Panchpatmali deposits in Koraput district are the most important bauxite deposits in the state.
