(i) The deciduous forests of India are economically important because : Though it is a mixed forest but single species of trees grow in patches favouring the exploitation of forest resources. These forests are not too dense and therefore are easily accessible. Moreover, these forests provide valuable wood which is commercially very important such as sal, teak, shisham, sandalwood and khair etc. (ii) The forest cover in recent years has decreased due to: 1. Thoughtless and rapid exploitation of forest resources as per demand of increasing population. 2. For acquiring land for agriculture, industries and construction purposes, the forests have been cut down recklessly.
