Chokecherry is a shrub or small tree with smooth reddish-brown bark. It can be found throughout the canyons in the Wasatch mountains . The blossoms are white with yellow stamens. The fruit, which resembles small cherries, is red, turning black at maturity. It has a pleasant, bitter, astringent flavor, that is popular in jelly or a syrupy juice. Look for it in the canyons as you take an afternoon drive.
