Should I "deadhead" my petunias to make them bushy, and to keep them from getting "leggy" ?

1 Answer

Answer :

Yes, it is good to deadhead and even remove most of the long branches that develop on petunia plants over the summer.  At about the first of July cut back half of the branches on a plant and fertilize.  Then two weeks later, when the ones you cut back are growing well again, go in and cut back the other half of the long, leggy branches.  By August they will all be growing well and looking as good as at the first of the summer.

Last Answer : I think that they do better planted in the ground. The pots might be root bound. Turn one over and carefully tap the bottom and look at the dirt inside........if you are seeing lots of ... new dirt in the hole & replant it. You also could trim several inches off each top when replanting them.
