I have small potted rose and the leaves are turning yellow.

There are a few possible causes for rose leaves turning yellow.  This can happen to leaves on the bottom of the plant if the upper leaves are shading the lower leaves from the light.   Stress to the plant is another common cause of this type of yellowing.  Heat stress may cause the plant to yellow its leaves and even drop them.  Make sure the plant is not overly exposed to heat.   Excessive fertilizer can also cause this type of yellowing.  Rose leaves can be burned by to much of a granular fertilizer or excessive amounts of products like miracle grow.   Another possible cause for the yellowing is some type of pest or disease.  Examine the plant carefully for any signs of damage which may have been caused by diseases or pests.   In general, keep the plant well watered but not soaking wet. You can use a moisture meter or your finger to determine the soil moisture level.  Place your finger as deep into the soil as you can.  If it feels moist to the touch there is no need to water.
