how do you grow roses from cuttings

1 Answer

Answer :

Take flowering stem with 7 leaves below flower.  Cut off flower.  Bury stem in good soil with 5 leaves below ground level and 2 above.  Cover above ground part with a glass jar (1 quart size canning or mayonnaise jar) and leave it over the winter.  In Spring remove glass jar.  Roots should have formed and plant should begin to get green growth.  Cuttings from friend's plants will expand the kinds of roses you grow but you need to plant the cuttings soon after they were cut so they are fresh. This is how we did it when I was a kid.  Not all of the cuttings were successful, but most were.  This was in northern Ohio.
