My son wants a reptile for a pet. I'm considering getting him one, but I hate the idea of feeding it other animals. Are there any reptiles that don't eat bugs?

1 Answer

Answer :

There are no known snake species that are vegetarian. You might consider one of the varieties of land tortoises, iguanas, chuckwallas or uromastyx (hard to find). Iguanas eat leaves, buds, flowers and fruit.  Tortoises eat a variety of veggies and vegetation. Chuckwallas, found in the American Southwest, eat primarily desert plants and leaves. You might, for example, consider a gecko. While they and other species of reptile do eat insects, you don't have to feed them live ones. Pet shops have dried and powdered insects that help make feeding easier.
