I'm no scientist so I'm not sure how close the scientific community is to a breakthrough in plate techtonics research, but I would think with ... the world, this kind of research might be cut back a little bit in favor of more pressing needs.

I would suggest planting some very hardy plants/trees (even if they're typically unwanted breeds, like weeds) with deep growing roots, and ... so I can't give you any suggestions on specific plants, but that's really all you can do.
