You sound more qualified than any of us on this decision. If you buy Vista Business or Ultimate, it can downgrade to XP Professional… so at least then you’d have the choice.

In theory, the entire drive could’ve been selected and under Get Info, you could change folder permissions for all enclosed items to something different if you were logged in as an Admin.
