I’d say practice. I’m not great at it, but I’ve picked up the ability to hold a beat. The key with beatboxing is the way it all runs together. If you slowed the routines right down you’d find, obviously, the performer is only making one sound at a time but in such quick succession they sound like they’re synchronius when performed faster. This is why Rahzel can sound like he’s singing at the same time as making a beat. Want to have some fun? You can start learning simply by saying ‘Boots’, ‘Cats’ – ‘Boots’ is your bass drum noise and ‘Cats’ is your snare – so try and say the former in a deep voice, the latter harshly and kind of clicking the back of your throat as you do it. Yodelers, I do not kno-eee-oooooooow.
