I think we do, partly because of something I heard Deepak Chopra talk about once. He was talking about the mind and the soul and discussed a case where someone is declared clinically dead. In that case, the body’s functions have ceased. But if the mind lives in the brain, and the brain no longer works, where did the mind go? In a dead person, this wouldn’t matter, but sometimes people are revived from being clinically dead. If the person’s brain wasn’t working, then where was his mind? Where did it go? How did it come back? I know the above sounds like new age mumbo-jumbo, especially to a person who believes in the scientific method like myself, but I have to admit that this line of thinking has me wondering.
