I would suggest delaying the adoption until your house is empty, so that you and the dog have a chance to bond. If the dog is not spayed, please arrange that immediately. It is the humane thing to do, unless you are a breeder. Then you need not worry about her oestrus. Try to find out what veterinarian they used, and get the dog’s complete health records if possible. I hope you will let your new dog sleep in your room, and will let her adjust at her own pace. I wouldn’t change a 5-year-old dog’s name, but there are those who disagree with me. If you let her out, please use Frontline Plus and a heartworm medication once a month. I’m sure there’s more, but I will just say that I hope your new dog will bring you years of love and pleasure.
