Answer :

Airprint needs an airprint compatible printer (as far as I can tell at the moment only HP eprint-enabled printers are comptaible but there may be others) and you need to enable airprinting in the printer driver.

If it were me, I’d do some speed tests online (iPhone or wireless computer vs ipad on my home network) and then call Apple. Others have reported no problem at all. No word yet if it’s a hardware issue.
