answer:Alright, here we go: HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. AIDS is the syndrome (or disease) that you develop over time after having contracted HIV. It basically means that your autoimmune systems quits, and almost any other virus or bacteria you run into can be fatal. There is extensive research going on right now, some focused on treating AIDS, most on defeating HIV. Until quite recently, HIV and AIDS was a death sentence, unless something else killed you first that is. There have been a few cases recently where formerly infected patients tested HIV free. So, there is some hope.
