Parents may not deny lifesaving medical attention to children because of their own belief. And parents cannot endanger the psyche of the child by teaching them inappropriate things. This is not meant to say that deciding a 6th grader should have geography instead of ancient history would be cause to override a parents’ decision. But some parents attempt to make some really bad decisions that can damage a child, like teaching that the Nazis had it right and that minorities should be eliminated. At some point, it is better for the welfare of the child that someone step in and say the parents are wrong.
