I have trouble getting a true read on intelligence until someone is talking about something they care about or are passionate about. It doesn’t matter what the subject is, just that they’re into it. Even if it’s not their expertise, you can get a really good feel for how their mind works in just a few minutes of listening when they’re fully engaged.
