Star Wars started out as a comic, and sold over 2 million copies in just the US on just the first day out. After this, George Lucas wanted to make Star Wars into a book. After doing this, Star Wars (the book) sold over 14 million copies in just the US on just the first day. After doing this, George Lucas' friend said "wouldn't it be funny if they made Star Wars into a film?" Lucas was then inspired by this, and did not think of this as a joke, but as a duty, to make Star Wars into a film.
