James Harvey Robinson (1863-1936) was an American historian.Robinson taught history at the University of Pennsylvania. Afterbecoming a full professor in 1895, he taught at Columbia Universityuntil 1919. He had an important influence on the study and teachingof history. In 1919, he was one of the founders and first directorof the New School for Social Research. His writings and lecturesstressed the "new history" - the social, scientific, andintellectual progress of humanity rather than just politics.
