The events of his supposed defeat of King Porus of Hydaspes atthe Battle of the Hydaspes River are strange - it was a closebattle, and after Alexander 'won', he inexplicably gave back toPorus his kingdom of Hydaspes, and also donated to Porus hisastounded ally King Taxiles' kingdom of Taxila. He then went on doing conquests for Porus to add to the latter'skingdom. It sounds more like Hydaspes River was a stalemate at best, ifnot a defeat for Alexander, given Alexander's obsequious approachto his alleged victim, but of course his tame historians are notgoing to admit it. It will remain a mystery.
