How to choose a fishing line for spinning?
A spinning line should combine completely contradictory qualities - strength and low thickness. It has to withstand heavy loads when playing fish. The thicker the line, the stronger it is. But, on the other hand, having a large thickness, it is more noticeable to fish and, in addition, the thick line becomes heavier, which interferes with casting the bait over a long distance. Here is a small example: when the line thickness is reduced by only 0.01 mm, the throwing range increases by 5 percent.
And if the line with a thickness of 0.3 mm is changed to a line with a thickness of 0.2 mm, then the throwing distance increases immediately one and a half times. For fishing with a spinning rod, the large thickness of the line does not interfere, the fish is not able to see the line when throwing, or feel it when capturing the bait. But for fishing with a jig or float rod, it is important to use a thin line, and anglers note a noticeably increasing bite with the use of a thin line.
choose a line for spinningUntil the mid-90s, there was simply no other alternative to nylon or nylon threads used to make fishing line. But the situation changed for the better with the advent of a new type of fishing line during this period of time - braided fishing cords. Their strength exceeds the parameters of traditional monofilament lines by several times, so it became possible to reduce the diameter of the line.
At first, the fishermen were suspicious of the new product, and besides, outwardly, the cord looked like a weak cotton thread. But over time, having felt the difference in practice, they drew attention to one more important property of the new spinning cord, it does not have the elasticity that monolines usually have. This means that the cord can transmit even very weak vibrations, which affects the speed of determining the moment of undercutting.
Fishing line undergoes high tensile loads and wear when rubbing against the spool, guide rings or the bottom of the reservoir, which is often rocky or strewn with snags. It is not for nothing that ordinary nylon monofilaments for fishing rods are coated with a special composition in order to reduce wear. That is, today, the fisherman can choose between two types of fishing line: monofilament and polyfiber cords, the latter can be divided into braided and sintered by the type of connection of individual threads into a cord, "braids" are more common and are sold in any store.
Braided cords have the main advantage of being very sensitive with little elongation against monofilament, which can elongate up to 20 percent of its original length when pulled. At the same time, the strength of the cord is many times greater than that of a conventional mono line, despite the same diameter of the line and cord.
Despite such obvious advantages, braided line still has one drawback - increased abrasiveness. As a result, increased requirements for strength and surface condition are imposed on the guide rings. The line guide should also be of better quality, in addition to this, the backstop should be more reliable in order to cushion the load when the thread is taut. Despite this, most anglers prefer to deal with braided thread, it still has more advantages than disadvantages.
Happy fishing!
