How to choose a spinning rod?
In spinning fishing, anyone can find what they like. For yourself, you can discover completely unexpected opportunities for travel, creativity, communication. Spinning will allow you to successfully fish in any body of water in which there are predators - both in a deep river with a powerful current, and in an overgrown shallow pond.
Spinning tackle is currently widely used for many types of fishing. The main distinguishing characteristic of spinning fishing is the bait wiring, which can be natural or artificial.
The tackle consists of four main parts: rods, lines, reels and lures. All these elements must be in good working order and correctly selected, because fishing should be enjoyable, and not turn into a struggle with your tackle. In this article we will try to answer the question "How to choose a rod for spinning?" In the following articles we will answer the questions: "How to choose a reel" and "How to choose a line".
Spinning rod
Spinning rodThe most important functions are assigned to the rod when fishing: casting the bait, hooking and controlling the posting, damped loads when fishing for fish, signaling about bite and bait behavior. The base of the rod is its whip, or blank, on which the handle with the reel holder and the feed rings are attached. The modern spinning rod is a high-tech product that mainly uses carbon fiber materials. The use of graphite in the construction primarily influenced the reduction in weight and the increase in the length and strength of the rods.
How to choose the length
In Russian conditions, the length of fishing rods, as a rule, ranges from 1.8 to 3.3 meters. The choice is necessary depending on the potential fishing conditions and your personal preference. The main criterion is whether you will be fishing from the shore or from a boat.
It must be remembered that due to their low weight, short rods have a higher sensitivity than long ones, that is, the ability to give you an accurate signal about a bite and a bait falling to the bottom. You can fish with a short rod without fatigue all day long. So, the optimal rod length for fishing from a boat is 2 meters or a little more, depending on the size of the boat.
But fishing from a boat with a long rod is inconvenient; problems may arise in cases of fishing when manipulating in a confined space. In most cases, a rod with a length of 2.5-3 meters is used for fishing from the shore. It is more convenient for them to change the horizon of the spinning spoon and to circle the obstacles when navigating.
Rod test
The dough is measured in fractions of an ounce or in grams (1 ounce is 28 grams). The test indicates what range the weight of the lures for which this rod is intended. The lower limit is the weight from which you begin to feel the presence of baits when casting, the upper limit is when the rod, without the risk of being broken, can still transfer acceleration to the bait during power casting. This characteristic, unfortunately, does not in all cases correspond to the real possibilities of spinning, so you should be careful here.
Rings
RingsNext, you need to pay attention to the rings. The strongest material currently used to make guides is Silicon Carbide, or SIC for short. Its distinctive feature is a silvery-gray color with a metallic sheen. This is followed by a variety of alumina-based materials. The reliability of products also depends on the manufacturer, while externally identical rings during testing can have a big difference. It is usually sufficient to have rings made of high quality aluminum oxide.
In some cases, you can find a rod, all of which are small in size, which means that a baitcasting reel is placed on it.
Selection recommendations
Ideally, you should have three rods, light, medium and heavy, but this is quite expensive. Therefore, for the first time, you can get by with one universal one, the real test of which is 7-30 or 5-25 g.
If you have already chosen a specific model, first of all, pay maximum attention to the junction of the knees. The connection must be tight enough so that the top knee does not fly into the water during casts. The most unpleasant thing is that cracks form at the junction in this case, then you have to put a bandage in the form of a metal sleeve.
There should be no crackles, extraneous sounds when shaking the rod, the blank should carry out its work as a whole. The knees that are connected must themselves be straight and must form a straight line without kinking. At the same time, the installation of the rings should also be checked, which should also be on the same straight line. It is also necessary to check how secure the reel seat is - try to rotate it around the axis.
