There is a difference of opinion among the experts regarding the naming of Chittagong name . According to another, Twelve Auliyas came to the region in the thirteenth century to spread Islam. They lit a large lamp and placed it on a high place. In the regional language of Chittagong, ' chati ' means lamp or charag and village means village. According to Sir William Jones, founder of the Asiatic Society , the name Chittagong originated from the name of a small bird in the area. Chittagong became part of the Mughal Empire in 16 AD. Khan handed over Islamabad to the British East India Company, which later renamed it Chittagong.
