The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reform (NICAR) of the Government of Bangladesh approved Rangpur as the seventh division of the country on January 25, 2010. Earlier, in a cabinet meeting held on July 13, 2009, it was decided to divide Rangpur. A committee was formed and the committee submitted its report on July 21.
