According to Islamic law, a man can have up to 4 wives at a time. This right of men has not been curtailed by any law of Bangladesh. However, the law of Bangladesh has attached some rules in case of subsequent marriage. Most people in Bangladesh think that a second marriage requires the permission of the first wife but this is not true. According to section 6 of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance 1961 , if a man wants to remarry while having a first wife, he must obtain the permission of the arbitral tribunal. Must apply along with Chairman. It should be mentioned in the application whether the wife has given permission. If the wife does not give permission, the arbitral tribunal can give permission considering the overall situation. If the arbitral tribunal does not give permission, the assistant judge can be challenged in court. The decision of the Assistant Judge will then be final. It is not a matter of not getting married if you get married without the permission of the arbitral tribunal. Marriage without the consent of the arbitral tribunal will be legal but will be considered a punishable offense punishable by imprisonment for up to 1 year or a fine of Rs 10,000 or both .
